DHI stands for Direct Hair Implantation. Grafts are loaded into a fine implanter pen and placed straight into the scalp, so the channel is opened and the follicle delivered in a single movement. Because no separate channel-making stage is needed, the recipient area does not have to be shaved.
Why does the no-shave part matter?
For a lot of people it is the deciding factor. You can treat a receding hairline or a widening parting without announcing it, and go back to work without an obvious explanation. That is why DHI is our standard approach for women, and for beard and moustache work where the surrounding hair stays untouched.
The donor area still needs a small trimmed section for extraction, though this is usually easy to conceal under the hair above it.
How does DHI compare with FUE?
Both move your own follicles permanently, and both are done under local anaesthetic. The differences are practical. DHI keeps the recipient area unshaven and gives very direct control over the angle of each graft as it goes in. It is also slower and more meticulous, which is why it costs more and why the number of grafts placed in one session is usually lower.
Shaven Sapphire FUE tends to be the better choice for large sessions and dense frontal packing. Neither is universally superior; the right answer depends on your hair, the area treated and how discreet you need to be.
How long does it take to recover?
Recovery is much the same as FUE. Grafts are secure within about 72 hours, washing starts around day three, and most people are back at desk work in three to five days. Transplanted hairs shed in the first weeks, regrowth begins at three to four months, and the result matures by 9 to 12 months.
What does DHI cost?
Our DHI packages are £4,200 for a smaller session and £5,150 for a larger one. Every package includes two sessions of regenerative hair growth treatment, one applied during the procedure, UK-based patient support, post-operative medication and an aftercare pack.

Do I really not need to shave?
The recipient area is not shaved. A small part of the donor area is trimmed for extraction, and it is normally hidden by the hair above it.
Is DHI better for women?
It is usually the better fit, because female hair loss tends to be diffuse thinning around a parting where shaving would be unacceptable and existing hair needs protecting.
Does DHI last longer than FUE?
No. Both relocate follicles that are genetically resistant to pattern loss, so longevity is the same. Technique affects how the result looks, not how long it lasts.
Can I have DHI on a large bald area?
It can be done, but for extensive loss a shaven session usually places more grafts in one sitting. We will give you an honest recommendation at your assessment.
