Can a moustache transplant cover a cleft lip scar?
Often, yes. Using the DHI technique, individual follicles are implanted precisely into and around the cleft lip scar so a moustache or beard grows to disguise it. Because the placement is meticulous and the scar area is delicate, it is planned carefully, and results build as the hair grows in over the following months.
Do grafts survive in scar tissue?
They can, but scar tissue has a poorer blood supply than normal skin, so graft survival is generally lower and less predictable than in a standard transplant. A smaller test session is sometimes done first, and the work may be staged. We assess the scar in person and are honest about the likely density before you decide.
Which scars can a hair transplant restore?
Hair can be restored into many stable scars: surgical scars, burns, accident scars, the linear scar left by older strip (FUT) transplants, and facial scars including cleft lip repair, where a moustache or beard transplant can disguise the area. The key requirement is that the scar is mature and has a reasonable blood supply.

Is a hair transplant for a cleft lip scar permanent?

What scars can be treated?
Cleft lip repair scars (with a moustache or beard transplant), surgical scars, burn scars, and gaps in the beard, eyebrows or scalp from injury or previous surgery can often be improved. Each is assessed individually, since the scar’s depth and blood supply affect what is achievable.
Is scar hair restoration painful?
It is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel little during the procedure, with mild soreness afterwards. The scar area can be more delicate, so aftercare is explained carefully. Any discomfort is usually short-lived and managed with simple pain relief.
Can you cover an old FUT strip scar?
Often, yes. Placing grafts into and around a linear donor scar can soften its appearance and let you wear shorter styles more comfortably. We assess the scar’s width and quality first, and are honest about how much improvement is realistic.
How many sessions does scar restoration need?
Sometimes one is enough, but because scar tissue supports grafts less readily, a second session a while later is not unusual where more density is wanted. We plan this with you rather than promising everything in a single sitting.
