A moustache transplant fills gaps and builds fullness across the upper lip. As with a beard transplant, individual follicles are placed at the correct angle so growth looks natural and blends with any existing hair.
We use the DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) technique here too, implanting each follicle directly without shaving the area, for precise placement on the mobile skin of the upper lip.
How is the upper lip treated?
The skin of the upper lip is mobile and sensitive, so placement is precise and done under local anaesthetic. We design the shape and density with you first, keeping it proportionate to your face and consistent with your beard if you have one.
Who is a moustache transplant for?
It suits men with a thin or patchy moustache, gaps in the upper-lip hair, or an area interrupted by a scar. It is also a well-suited option for disguising a cleft lip repair scar, where carefully angled hairs break up and soften the line for a natural look. The upper lip is a detailed area, so precise, single-hair work matters.
What is recovery like?
Expect tiny crusts along the upper lip for a few days and some redness, which settle quickly. The placed hairs shed at a few weeks and regrow from around three to four months, reaching the full result over the following months. Your artist gives you clear, simple aftercare for the area.

Frequently asked questions
Is a moustache transplant permanent?
Yes. The transplanted follicles keep growing in their new position, so results are lasting. As with any transplant, the hairs shed and regrow over several months, with the settled moustache visible by around six months.
Can it be combined with a beard transplant?
Often, yes. Many patients treat the moustache and beard together for a balanced result, which can also make efficient use of the donor area in one session. We plan the whole lower face at consultation so the density looks even.
