Most skin lumps and bumps are harmless, but it is sensible to have anything new, changing or bothersome checked. As part of our skin and aesthetic service, we assess common skin lesions such as moles, cysts, skin tags and other bumps, and advise on whether treatment or removal is appropriate.
If a lesion needs specialist or urgent attention, we tell you clearly and direct you to the right care. We do not treat anything that should be seen elsewhere.
What skin lumps and bumps can be assessed?
We commonly assess moles, skin tags, cysts, lipomas and other benign bumps, along with general skin lesions people want checked or removed for comfort or cosmetic reasons. The first step is always an assessment to understand what it is before discussing options.
When should I get a skin lump checked?
See a clinician if a lump is new, growing, changing colour or shape, bleeding, itching or otherwise concerning. Early assessment is always worthwhile. Even when something turns out to be harmless, having it confirmed brings peace of mind.
What does a skin lesion check involve?
A clinician examines the area carefully, often using a dermatoscope that magnifies and lights the skin, and explains what they can see. Many lumps and moles can be reassured on the spot. Where a closer look or removal is appropriate, we talk it through clearly rather than rushing you.
What happens if a lump needs removing?
Where removal is the right step, for comfort, appearance or to examine the tissue, it is usually a straightforward in-clinic procedure after a short assessment. If anything looks like it needs specialist input, we tell you honestly and make sure you are directed to the right care.

Yes, the majority are benign, such as cysts, skin tags, lipomas and ordinary moles. That said, any lump that is new, changing, painful or bleeding should be assessed. A clinician can usually tell you what it is and whether it needs anything doing.
How are skin lesions removed?
It depends on the type, size and location of the lesion. Minor removals are typically done under local anaesthetic as a short procedure. We explain the method, what to expect afterwards, and any scarring, before you decide to go ahead.
Will you refer me if something looks serious?
Yes, without hesitation. If a lesion needs urgent or specialist review, we say so clearly and direct you to appropriate care rather than treating it ourselves. Your safety comes before anything else, and honest advice is part of the service.
Does skin lesion removal leave a scar?

Is a skin check or mole check painful?
The check itself is painless. If removal is needed, the area is numbed first so the procedure is comfortable. Any tenderness afterwards is usually mild and short-lived.
