It is one of the most asked questions after a hair transplant, understandably, since a hat feels like the easy way to stay discreet while you heal. The answer is yes, but timing and the type of hat matter.
The early days
In the first days the grafts are delicate, so anything that touches or rubs the recipient area should be avoided. A tight or lined hat that presses on the new grafts can disturb them, so it is best to wait until your clinician gives the go-ahead, often around the two-week mark.
When a hat is fine
Once the grafts have settled, a loose hat is usually fine and can help with sun protection, which the healing scalp needs. We will advise on the right timing for your case, and on the best kind of hat to avoid any pressure on the treated area.
