Those tiny, firm white bumps that appear around the eyes and cheeks are usually milia. They are harmless, very common, and often mistaken for stubborn whiteheads, which is why squeezing them never works.
What are milia?
Milia are small pockets of keratin trapped just under the surface of the skin. They can appear at any age, sometimes after using heavy creams or following skin irritation, and they are not a sign of poor hygiene.
Should you treat them?
Many fade on their own, and a good, non-clogging skincare routine can help. When they persist or bother you, a clinician can remove them safely with a fine, sterile technique, which is far better than picking at them and risking a scar.
